Mark Emmert Is Hulk Hogan

Apr 4, 2013; Atlanta, GA, USA; NCAA president Mark Emmert speaks at a press conference in preparation for the men

Mark Emmert is the face of the NCAA. No, not because he has huge pectoral muscles or can pick up Andre The Giant, but because he has some qualities that make him endearing that I apparently fail to see. Regardless, Emmert is there to help universities navigate their way to exploiting young people by not paying them, suspending them for iffy rules at every turn and being an all-around swell guy.

Hulk Hogan was the face of the then WWF. He would preach to us kids about taking our vitamins and saying our prayers. He would do all of that, mind you, while beating the ever living hell out of his opponents. If you are too young to remember the Hulkster and only know of some dude who does that commercial with Troy Aikman, let me tell you something about him. Hulk Hogan did for the Gulf War what Seal Team Six did for stopping Osama Bin Laden.

As it turns out, however, Hogan was never really that good of a guy. He would politic his way to victories, abuse steroids and ended up being nothing like the character he played while on our picture-boxes. Hogan was a straight up liar, con-artist and an overall sham. Somehow, magically I suppose, I feel like he and Emmert share some qualities.
