Live Blog of Big East Tip-Off Shenanigans and Tomfoolery

A Big East live blog is a very dangerous thing. Who knows if anyone will show, care to be involved or be the correctly proportioned amount of drunk. What makes it even more dangerous is the fact we are going to be doing our first live blog on a Friday night. A time that is usually spent for young people to go cause or be involved in some form of shenanigans or possibly meeting their future spouse (granted, that might not be by choice).

There are some of us, however, who are a wee-big older, have beasts (code word for kids) or are not allowed to participate in such tomfoolery. For us folks, the world-wide-interwebs are our bestest friends. That is why we are going to do this Big East live blog. To take our relationship with the Interwebs to the next level.

If you’re of age, grab yourself an adult cocktail. If you are not of age, well, grab yourself the meanest glass of chocolate milk. Either way, join us tonight for Storm The Paint’s fist live blog. This version of it will be because of the Big East Tip-Off.

As discussed yesterday, here is how you can watch it:

Tonight. On Fox Sports 1. At 9 pm Eastern Standard Time.

Be there (and here) or be square.

I will be around — off and on — throughout the day. Get involved and post some nonsense in the comments section below. Even if it is well before the event starts, I’ll do my gosh darn best to respond or join you in our quest to ruin make our Friday as epic as possible. We might even have a few special guests come by to drop some knowledge on your craniums.

No cover. No charge. Drink Specials All Night. Big East Live Blog starting…..

Well, whenever you guys want, but more than likely around 9 pm!

    Firsties?

  • Joseph Nardone

As mentioned above (but for those who skipped ahead), I will be around off and on all day. Feel free to get involved before the event kicks-off tonight. I’ll try to get back to or stay involved with all throughout the day with anyone who starts early!

    I’m definitely in on this!!!!

    • Joseph Nardone

We have our first #goacc friend and big time Leonard Hamilton supporter. Also, editor of FanSided CFB, but believe you me, he knows his college hoops!

  • Jared M

    I haven’t been this excited for a St. John’s season in…13 years? Let’s goooooo

  • Joseph Nardone

Okay. Outside a few, my crack team of Google Analytic researchers have told me that some of you guys are visiting, but not commenting. Which is fine because we won’t go live live until 9. However, in the interest of keeping the comments flowing: Do you guys see anyone from the Red Storm as being NBA-level talented?

  • Joseph Nardone

For those coming by: Reportedly the Fox Sports 1 coverage will open with Bill Rafferty interviewing Steve Lavin

  • Joseph Nardone

Before Fox Sports 1 goes live, here is a quick recap of what has happened. Chris Obekpa has been suspended. Not participating tonight and out the first two EXHIBITION games. Lavin, per the usual, is in a nice fancy suit, the gym is the most filled it has been in years for such an event and Felipe Lopez looked good in the alumni game. Get it!

BIG EAST?! MORE LIKE BIG LEAST!

Sorry. Pac-12ers have nothing to say when it comes to hoops. We haven’t been relevant since like 2002.

    • Joseph Nardone

There is hope. USC has a nice, new fancy smancy coach. UCLA is, well, always running good coaches, but Oregon is a top 15 team this year and on the rise.

      • http://fansided.com/ Michael Castillo

The hiring of Enfield is either going to be the smartest hire in the history of ever, or the dumbest. It could easily go either way. Not holding my breath.

        And gotta love Dana Altman.

        • Joseph Nardone

Altman, plus Oregon boosters, puts them in a good spot. Plus, depending on what level of expectations they put on their bball program, if they ever become unhappy with Altman, they can go get a young coach (Pastner) for a ton of loot.

  • Joseph Nardone

Orlando Sanchez has looked pretty good in the scrimmage. He is definitely going to be key for the Johnnies this season and should (at least eventually) find himself in the starting rotation.

Big East Tip-off Coverage on Fox Sports 1 (219 on DirecTV, the rest of you are on your own) goes live in one minute

  • Joseph Nardone

That was a pretty nice open by Fox Sports 1

  • Shane McCarthy

    Big East #1 !

    • Joseph Nardone

For those unaware, Shane is the managing editor of Play For The Garden. It’s a Big East site, not matter what the ACC thinks

      • Shane McCarthy

This is correct. Thanks for the intro, Joseph

        • Joseph Nardone

It’s why I get paid the big bucks

  • Joseph Nardone

Wait, Nick Cannon was at Providence’s shindig tonight? lololol

    • Shane McCarthy

      Wild ‘n’ Out at PC

  • Joseph Nardone

    St. John’s had Lupe btw

  • Joseph Nardone

The Lavin interview is live now

    • Shane McCarthy

Whoa. What did Obekpa do? Any word?

      • Joseph Nardone

Nothing other than violation of university rules. Just 2 exhibition games though. Zach Braziller of the NY Post will likely have more on it later tonight.

  • Joseph Nardone

Lavin talking about the Obekpa situation as a teachable moment. He said the same thing about D’Angelo Harrison last year. Let’s hope it works out a lil better this time around.

  • Joseph Nardone

Honestly, Lavin is a very likable guy. Plus with everything he has gone through in such a hard period of time. Hard not to root for him to succeed.

  • Joseph Nardone

So, after Orlando Sanchez and Max Hooper looked good in the scrimmage, who do you guys have as your projected starting five (assuming Obekpa is fine after two exhibition game suspension)?

    • Shane McCarthy

Jordan, Harrison, Sampson, Obekpa and ?????? Phil Greene? Pointer?

      • Joseph Nardone

I have Jordan (PG), Harrison (SG), Sanchez (SF), Sampson (PF), Obekpa (C). With Hooper, Branch, Jones, Pointer, Greene all being key guys off the bench…Gods’gift Bougalt, Balamou being fillers

  • Joseph Nardone

Providence is a program on the rise. Plus, I mean, look at how freaking thin Ed Cooley has become. Good for him.

    • Shane McCarthy

I like this squad a lot this year. Picked them to finish 3rd.

  • Joseph Nardone

It’s far too early to start judging the Fox Sports coverage of the Big East, but the studio team has a surprising amount of chemistry for their first night on the job.

  • Joseph Nardone

Chris Mack is also a fun coach (YouTube sensation). Really, most of the coaches in the Big East are very likable.

  • Joseph Nardone

Creighton has a ton of build coming into the season. I am really interested to see what happens when they play super tough competition on a regular basis.

    • Shane McCarthy

They squeaked by Cincinnati in the tournament last year who was a mid-level Big East team. So that’s a positive. But going on the road and winning on a consistent basis will be difficult.

  • Joseph Nardone

It’s neat to hear Doug McDermott talking about playing in the Garden. Just in case some forgot that a few kids still care about playing in the mecca of, well, you know the spiel.

  • Shane McCarthy

Well, looks like DePaul is doing it right with bag-pipes.

  • Joseph Nardone

    So, um, this happened: http://instagram.com/p/f6Z7Cjk4G0/

    • Shane McCarthy

      Dirtttttyyyy

  • Joseph Nardone
  • Joseph Nardone

Only forty minutes left of Fox Sports’ coverage. This makes me sad, but their coverage was so much better than I assumed it would be.

  • Joseph Nardone

Tomorrow we will have a full recap of tonight’s shenanigans. Probably a slew of video, some Obekpa talk and making fun of Providence thinking Nick Cannon is a smart idea. I kid I kid

  • Joseph Nardone

Again, my crack(ed out) team of Google Analytic researchers are telling me there a slew of you fine folks on the page. You know, by not participating I feel like I am just talking to myself….which is not cool because I am already drinking a beer by my lonesome.

  • Joseph Nardone

Red Storm fans currently going bananas.

  • Joseph Nardone
  • Joseph Nardone

All right, folks. Thanks to the five folks who participated and the rest of you who came to read a grown man make a fool of himself. Good night and hope you all have a good weekend. Recapping the event will be up tomorrow!
