Former St. John’s Stud Malik Sealy to be Honored via Bobblehead

The St. John’s Red Storm have a very historic program. Maybe some folks forgot about the run some dude in a sweater helped the program go on, but I swear on my (bold) kid that the Johnnies were once a national player in the realm that is college basketball. So, with that being said it should go come as no surprise that the program would want to honor such past stars that helped them go on such runs. Like, um, Malik Sealy for example.

As Steve Lavin mentioned in the tweet, the Red Storm are going to honor the late Malik Sealy via a bobblehead.

Sealy was a member of the program from 1988-92. After that he was selected in the first round of the NBA Draft (14th overall). Tragically, Sealy would pass away at the way too young age of 30 after being involved in an automobile accident. The Minnesota Timberwolves, which was the last franchise Malik would play for, retired his jersey number (2) in remembrance of him.

While a bobblehead might not seem like a great way to honor someone in a traditional sense at least the Red Storm are acknowledging their past and allowing a younger group of St. John’s fans a chance to get to know some of the past Johnnies.
