Prognostication: D’Angelo Harrison is a talented but often troubled player. Make no bones about it, though, Harrison is the Red Storm’s star. His suspensions and run-ins with the team rules are pretty well documented by now, however, if he were to keep his nose clean, a player with Harrison’s skill-set can be a dark horse candidate for Big East Conference Player of the Year.
Strengths: Harrison can shoot the rock from anywhere on the floor. If we were to be honest about it, he is more than happy to hurl the ball from anywhere on the floor, too.
He has also showed improvements in his game every year he has been with the program. His handle and passing have both dramatically improved as has Harrison’s tendency to just go on flat-out scoring benders.
Weaknesses: Shot selection, shot selection and shot selection. Harrison hasn’t met a 30-footer heave he hasn’t liked. With more talented teammates around him, though, he might tone that down a little.
Harrison also has the tendency to no-show games. Whether it be a lack of effort on defense or being so lackadaisical that Steve Lavin pulls him from games completely — Harrison needs to stop his sometimes on the court tomfoolery.
Personal Note: Harrison is a fan favorite for obvious reasons. I mean, everyone likes a guy who can put the ball in the bucket. However, Harrison has a lot to gain and/or lose this season.
If the Red Storm were to fail to meet expectations or Harrison were to find himself suspended (again), his legacy in Johnnies’ lore will likely be tainted. He would also find his already iffy draft stock plummeting,
If he and the Red Storm were to succeed, well, he might end up being remembered as one of the players who really kick started the rebirth of the program as a national player.
Random, but neat D’Angelo Harrison Factoid: Born in Anchorage, Alaska.
