PrognosticationDavid Lipscomb — who last season walked-on — isn’t going to see much action this year. That doesn’t mean his contributions to the team are not important. Lipscomb’s ability to play smart basketball in practice will help develop other backcourt players who will see more time.

It is worth mentioning, however, that Lipscomb did play solid basketball during the Red Storm’s European tour.

Strengths: A coach’s kid. Lipscomb plays smart, heady basketball. This isn’t abnormal for a coach’s kid, but it is something Steve Lavin really likes in his players. It may even prove to be even more important if any unforeseen injuries (or the like) hit the team.

The sophomore is also pretty quick and is a true point guard — in the sense he rather pass and setup his teammates than hurl a basketball toward the general direction of the basket.

Weaknesses: Listen, ragging on a player who won’t see time is not cool. It just isn’t. There are obviously a slew of limitations in his game or he would play more.

Personal Note: A player like Lipscomb is important to any program that is looking to take the next step. “Star” players only get better when practicing against guys who are talented. Luckily for the Red Storm, Lipscomb fits the bill.

Random, but neat David Lipscomb Factoid: Lipscomb is a triplet. Yes, there are 2 other fellas walking the mean streets of the world looking just like him.
