St. John’s Shooter Max Hooper Makes A Lot of Buckets

There doesn’t happen to be many things as difficult as navigating the college basketball offseason. It is even worse when your favorite program doesn’t have a major football program like the St. John’s Red Storm. Luckily, however, Max Hooper sent out a little tweet for us all to think about before the season gets started.
You see, Max Hooper is a long-range assassin the likes that are only rivaled by characters on 24 (you know, you remember, that TV show). Hooper wasn’t eligible to play with the team last season because transfer rules and such, but he is now available to Steve Lavin — for him to use in any way he sees fit.
Lavin will likely use him to help spread the floor with Hooper’s ability to make shots.
Don’t believe me about Hooper being able to hit jumpers? You think everything that everyone has written about Max Hooper is some kind of giant hoax? Well, shame on you.
Proof is in the pudding. Or really, here at least, in the mean streets of Twitter.
Granted, Hooper was unlikely guarded by some of the top defenders in the nation like he will be during Big East Conference play. Nor was he off-balanced, going hard in transition or had thousands of people yelling at him, but still — that is a lot of made buckets.
St. John’s has needed a shooter the last few seasons. They have had plenty of athletes, guys who can score thanks to volume-shooting and even a few guys who came to the team with a reputation as a long-range threat, but none have materialized on a consistent enough basis to keep from teams going zone happy.
Hopefully Hooper (what a horrible, but awesome nickname that would be, Hopefully Hooper — even though it makes no sense), will fill that void the Johnnies so desperately need.
And for now, because preseason, one tweet gives Red Storm fans some hope.
