“The Italian Steph Curry” Federico Mussini Eyed by St. St. John’s
By Joe Nardone
When people haven’t seen a player play enough — or at all — they tend to rely on lazy comparisons. Between a noted ESPN NBA Draft breaker down guy once calling a player who averaged less than four points per game “The (Insert Country) Kevin Durant” to every white player that has ever had a decent jump shop being the next coming of Larry Bird, it is what people tend to do. So, um, I guess St. John’s Red Storm fans should take the following with a grain of salt, as it has been reported that they are going after 2015 recruiting prospect and “The Italian Steph Curry” Federico Mussini.
Let us brush aside the fact that Federico Mussini is a frail, nonathletic and generally untested 6’2″ guard, he is being compared to Steph Curry so he has to be all that and a bag of Salt and Vinegar ships.
Eyeballs are apparently on the watch for Mussini. NBADraft.Net — who was either half kidding or drunk — profiled Mussini as such:
"You can call him the Steph Curry of the Boot. Has close to zero NBA chances, but was one the most fun and clutch players of the tournament. Mussini made all the defenders trying to stop him crazy. His quickness is outstanding and he goes by people like a knife through butter. A great shooter from 3 pt and pull up jumper. Doesn’t have a great body, very skinny, but he is strong and knows how to handle contact, which is how he scores so much in the paint."
So, because Mussini is “fun” I guess he can be compared to Curry or something — likely something, but headlines get hits or whatever.
We will track the recruitment of Mussini as well as any other poor comparisons that come down the tracks.
