ESPN Extends Dick Vitale Because Life is Fun

ESPN has decided that two more years of Dick is needed. According to Disney, the parent company of ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports has extended the contract of Dick Vitale for two more years.

Let us be clear here: love or hate Dick Vitale for his probable Duke homer-ism and his — probably — always too enthusiastic response to everything in the world (rumor has it he once prematurely smiled moments before Daniel son hit the crane kick in The Karate Kid), he can be appreciated as a man who truly cares about the game of college basketball. So, that’s pretty neat.

More from NCAA

Dick Vitale first joined forces with ESPN all the way back in 1979. Now, with the new deal in place we can expect to have the services of Mr. Diaper Dandy for at least two more years.

I do honestly wonder if anyone under the age of, well, before people generally get Alzheimer’s, that Vitale was once an actual honest to goodness basketball coach. I’m not saying he was a very good or bad one — because I was not there to witness it — but it happened.

We wish ESPN, Vitale and your ears all the best for the next couple of years.
