The Big East Preseason Awards are finally upon entering the insides of our craniums. We can thank a little something called the Big East Conference Media Day for that. It was at that specific event where people who enjoy helping with thereincarnation of a once powerful league — now not as a powerful, but maybe one day — decide who they think will end up being the best of the best on Fox Sports 1…I mean, in the Big East Conference.
The votes are in, they have supposedly been counted and here is how it played out:
2014-15 Preseason All-Big East First Team
- Kellen Dunham, Butler, G, Jr., 6-6, 185
D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Georgetown, G, Jr., 6-3, 214
D’Angelo Harrison, St. John’s, G, Sr., 6-4, 204
JayVaughn Pinkston, Villanova, F, Sr., 6-7, 235
Matt Stainbrook, Xavier, C, Sr., 6-10, 270
2014-15 Preseason All-Big East Second Team
- Billy Garrett, Jr., DePaul, G, So., 6-6
LaDontae Henton, Providence, F, Sr., 6-6, 215
Rysheed Jordan, St. John’s, G, So., 6-4, 185
Ryan Arcidiacono, Villanova, G, Jr., 6-3, 195
Darrun Hilliard, Villanova, G, Sr., 6-6
2014-15 Big East Preseason Rookie of the Year
- Isaiah Whitehead, Seton Hall
2014-15 Big East Preseason Player of the Year
- D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Georgetown
You might notice that St. John’s block-person extraordinaire Chris Obekpa did not make any of the All-Big East teams, but it is worth noting that he received an “Honorable Mention”, which we all know is the kissing your cousin award of preseason awards.
