Media Availability

Rysheed Jordan

Jordan was famously limited to the media last season. That had very little to do with him and more to do with Lavin’s wanting to keep the hype as controlled as possible. Lavin said that he wanted the incoming freshman to focus more on school and hoops than the famed New York media. That could have been true, but it likely had more to do with the idea that the Jordan preseason hype was already running out of control.

It is not known how much more media availability there will be this year. However, it would make sense from a logical standpoint to think that Lavin would let Rysheed Jordan speak a little more, be available a little more and essentially let Jordan be treated like any other Red Storm player would be. I mean, he is no longer a freshman and there is very little reason to keep him away from the press unless there is something to hide.

There is also the fact that Jordan’s back story, which was slightly talked about last year,  would probably make people want to root for the kid. Letting us know him might make us want to root for him even more. People like rooting for kids.

The idea that Jordan might be in a more public spotlight might not sound that much more appealing, but getting to know a student-athlete as a person sometimes makes the player more likable or even more entertaining. All we knew about Jordan going into last season was about his athleticism and expected potential as a player.

Even if he ends up being a world-class jerk at least we will know stuff about the guy — which by default makes him a player worth watching.
