Samir Doughty Reportedly Commits to St. John’s

The curse has finally been broken! The St. John’s Red Storm have their first commitment for the 2015 recruiting class. According to the wonderfully delicious Zach Braziller of the New York Post, three-star recruit Samir Doughty was wooed, wined and felt divine after a visit with the program over the weekend and is joining the program.

Samir Doughty calls Philadelphia, Pennsylvania home. A 6’4″ guard, he played for Team Philly in the AAU circuit.

This is pretty substantial news for the most obvious reason. Not because of where Samir Doughty is ranked by reputable recruiting service websites, but because Steve Lavin finally gets his man — well, any man — to join the program for next season. With a slew of guys graduating at the end of the year it was rather paramount for the coach to bring in some guys.

Hopefully for the program, though, this is just the start for Lavin’s recruiting trail success. As is evident during current Red Storm games, St. John’s really has a depth issue and could certainly use more talented scholarship players.

Two game winning streak? Check. College basketball marathon? Check. A commitment for the St. John’s 2015 recruiting class? Check.

It is a solid day to be a fan of the Johnnies.
