Chris Obekpa Is More Than Just Dangerously Short Shorts

The St. John’s Red Storm are starting to get a lot more attention lately. Maybe it has to do with their 4-0 start, having the best backcourt in the entire Big East Conference or some other reason. Well, it is likely some other reason, and it has nothing to do with their abilities as a basketball team. In fact, it has more to do with Chris Obekpa having a fashion sense that seems to have been grabbed from a time machine.

Obekpa wearing short shorts is not exactly news at the moment. Anyone who has watched a single second of St. John’s this season already knew that Chris Obekpa was wearing his shorts like your grampa wears his slacks because he felt more comfortable in them that particular way. But still, because ESPN, many notable college basketball experts started to chime in on the dangerously short shorts.

However, despite how nauseating it can be that some folks are acting like this is a brand new thing it did provide the world with this incredible Vine.

Hopefully more important things are not getting lost in the short shorts rage. Obekpa has a much improved offense and is rebounding the ball far better than he has in the past. Oh, and he is still blocking the ball enough that if he were your girlfriend’s friend you would be calling him a expletive-blocker.

On the season Chris Obekpa is averaging 9 points, 10 boards and 4.3 blocks per outing. This doesn’t even begin to do “O’Blockpa” justice, as he might very well be one of the best players no one talks about enough in the entire country. He also happens to be — at least in my humble opinion — the member of St. John’s who will likely have the best pro basketball career. Although, it is certainly worth noting that Rysheed Jordan is starting to really put it all together too.

Opekpa’s shorts might be all the rage today. Heck, they will be even more fun come the NCAA Tournament if the Red Storm do make the dance (they will trend on Twitter because people). Nevertheless, it is actually Chris Obekpa the stud basketball player that’s making the shorts and not the other way around.

Regardless, good lord. I am horribly fearful that the world will find out what religion O’Blockpa worships if he bends the wrong way.
