Battle For New York Hot Takes, Lava Cakes and Expectation Mistakes
By Joe Nardone
Rysheed Jordan came off the bench for the second straight time in the Battle For New York. Why? Why not? Lavin is likes what Jordan gives him off the bench. It has also provided Jamal Branch with a more regular role with the team. However, that doesn’t mean Lavin prefers Branch over Jordan during important times of games.
Jordan is still getting the majority of the point guard minutes. He is also the better player. That isn’t even debatable. What can be questioned is if Lavin sticks to this lineup or goes back to his more conventional best five starting rotation.
Regardless, Lavin has always used the out of conference slate to tinker with his rotations. Now that the Red Storm are winning, with some lineups clearly working better than others, it is unlikely that St. John’s will keep messing around with its primary lineup anyway. The primary lineup, mind you, is not what Lavin has been hurling out to start the last two games.
