Battle For New York Hot Takes, Lava Cakes and Expectation Mistakes
By Joe Nardone
How good of people or basketball players are there in the Greene family that Phil Greene IV won’t just go by Phil Greene? I mean, were there three better Phil Greenes in his family bloodlines? Eh, I digress.
Greene IV is currently getting lots of deserved pub for his amazing late game performance against Syracuse. His 11 straight points to end the game pretty much put the Red Storm over the top. Still, his excellent few minute performance may have overshadowed a problem that has followed him around his entire career, his inconsistent play.
That’s okay, though. No, really, it is. I’m not even knocking him for his inability to string together great play or even solid minutes together. With Pointer currently excelling in his new role as the smallest big man in the history of basketball, Greene is probably the fifth best Red Storm player. Although, very few players are as vital to their team’s success as Greene IV.
St. John’s does not have a slew of guys who can hit from distance. Really, they have none who do so on a super regular basis. They do have a few guys who are capable of getting hot enough to be a deep shooting threat, though, with Greene being one of them.
When Greene IV gets going it is an exciting thing to watch. If you only showed people his scoring outbursts they would probably think that he is as prolific a scorer in college basketball as that guy you created in NBA 2k15. It is his scoring bursts that give the Red Storm an edge over their competitors who don’t have a weird, non-gameplan-able weapon like Greene IV.
