The St. John’s basketball program is no longer connected with Monmouth graduate transfer Ray Salnave after making the point guard’s final three schools.

According to a report from Zach Braziller of the New York Post, St. John’s is no longer interested in Monmouth graduate transfer Ray Salnave.

The Red Storm made the final three schools the point guard is considering joining DePaul and Loyola Marymount, which he announced last week.

Once it was reported that the program had interest in the Elmont, New York native, the immediate question was raised of who would be leaving the team since the Johnnies do not have an open scholarship remaining, pending junior wing LJ Figueroa withdraws from the 2020 NBA Draft.

In Braziller’s report he mentioned that the team thought a scholarship would open but now realizes it will not.

St. John’s lost Monmouth graduate transfer Nick Rutherford and Mustapha Heron to graduation while Ian Steere and Damien Sears have opted to transfer from the program.

Mike Anderson will bring in a recruiting class comprised of Posh Alexander, Dylan Wusu, Vince Cole, and Isiah Moore while also adding George Washington graduate transfer Arnaldo Toro.

The lead recruiter of Salnave was St. John’s assistant coach Steve DeMeo while Mike Anderson and rising senior guard Rasheem Dunn had become involved in recent days.

Dunn and Salnave are good friends from their high school and AAU days.

In his final season at Monmouth, Ray Salnave posted his best collegiate season with 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.5 steals per game on 39.6 percent shooting from the field and 36.4 percent from 3-point range.

St. John’s posted a 17-15 record (5-13 Big East) last season in its first year under the direction of Mike Anderson as the Johnnies won its final complete game of the season over the Georgetown Hoyas in the Big East Tournament and led the No. 1 seed Creighton Blue Jays at halftime before the season was canceled.
