The St. John’s basketball team will host the La Salle Explorers in the 2020-21 season in a rare matchup at Carnescca Arena.

As the summer continues to roll on, more matchups for the non-conference schedule are being released as the Johnnies will take on the La Salle Explorers in Queens next season.

The news of the game was first announced by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. However, a date and time for the game have not been announced yet.

St. John’s already have some confirmed games for next season with a trip to Texas Tech to take on the Red Raiders in the Big East vs. Big 12 Showdown along with participating in the NIT Season Tip-Off that includes Arizona, Cincinnati, and Texas Tech at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on November 25 and 27.

In addition, it was reported last month that the Johnnies would also be taking on the Sacred Heart Pioneers at Carnesecca Arena next season.

The showdown against La Salle will mark the first time the two teams will face off since 1964, a 78-71 win for the Red Storm at Madison Square Garden. The Johnnies are 3-3 against La Salle all-time with the first matchup taking place all the way back in 1936.

La Salle is a member of the Atlantic-10 conference, coming off of a season in which they finished 15-15 (6-12 A-10) after their season ended with the cancellation of the Atlantic-10 Tournament because of the coronavirus pandemic.

This upcoming season will be Mike Anderson’s second year in charge of the Red Storm after they finished 17-15 (5-13 Big East) last year.

St. John’s will return several key players from a season ago including Team MVP Rasheem Dunn, Most Improved Player Marcellus Earlington, and Big East All-Freshman selection Julian Champagnie.

Anderson also brings in a recruiting class headlined by freshman Posh Alexander and JUCO All-American Vince Cole.
