Small Forwards

Small forwards, or “wing players”, are a vital part to the success of any basketball team and while St. John’s looks like to be losing its wing prior to the 2020-21 season, it’s never too early to try and land that next big time playmaker.

The Johnnies were hit with the unexpected news that LJ Figueroa would enter the transfer portal if he withdraws his name from the 2020 NBA Draft and although a return to Queens isn’t completely out of the question, it’s certainly not a likely option.

As for now the Red Storm boast Julian Champagnie who is entering his sophomore year and looks poised for a breakout season that could eventually be a launch pad for him to reach the NBA.

Mike Anderson already has his eyes on a set of potential wings that could grace the floor at Madison Square Garden.

Jared Turner – Gonzaga College High School (D.C.). Two-star recruit, according to Verbal Commits. Not ranked by 247 Sports.

Ramel Lloyd Jr. – Taft Charter High School (Calif.). Four-star recruit, No. 70 in the country and the No. 22 small forward, according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.

Charles Anyichie – Ranney School (N.J.). Two-star recruit. Not ranked by 247 Sports.

Chisom Okpara – Vermont Academy (V.T.). Three-star recruit, No. 28 small forward his class, and the No. 1 player in the state of Vermont, according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.

At the time of publication, it is not known if St. John’s has reached out to any other recruits, but this will be updated as that information comes along.
