Former St. John’s basketball star Amir Garrett is continuing his stellar pitching for the Cincinnati Reds.

Amir Garrett is one of the best relief pitchers in Major League Baseball at the moment as the former St. John’s standout continued his All-Star caliber pitching as of late with another stellar performance.

The latest outing from Garrett came on Friday night against National League Central rival the Chicago Cubs and in relief of starting pitcher Tyler Mahle, who threw six and two-thirds innings of two-run ball.

Amir Garrett entered with two outs in the seventh inning with one runner on base and struck out David Caratini to end the inning.

Not only did Garrett send Caratini back to the dugout on a nasty slider, he let out a massive scream in excitement following the at-bat.

The former Johnnie was back out on the mound for the eighth inning which started with a strikeout of Nico Hoemer, followed by a single by Ian Happ, but that base hit was quickly erased by a double-play off the bat of Anthony Rizzo.

Garrett was credited with the hold, his third of the season, after thrown one and one-third innings allowing only that one hit and striking out two in the Reds’ 6-5 victory over the Cubs.
