St. John’s University alum Mike Repole’s bid to buy New York Mets ends
The dream to own the New York Mets has come to and end for St. John’s University alum Mike Repole.
It was perhaps one of the best days in recent memory for the New York Mets.
The team swept its crosstown rival New York Yankees in a doubleheader at Yankee Stadium, the second game seeing the Mets walk-off the Bronx Bombers in its own ballpark due to a makeup game cause by COVID-19 and the sale of the team is coming to an end.
However, for lifelong Mets fan Mike Repole it wasn’t one of the best days of the season as the group he was apart of was informed that they were no longer in contention of purchasing the team from Fred and Jeff Wilpon.
The sale is trending towards the direction of Steve Cohen, a multibillionaire hedge fund manager, who originally had a deal in place with the Wilpon’s to purchase the team earlier in 2020, but the deal was walked back over late negotiations.
Repole entered the picture after joining a group led by former Yankees All-Star third baseman Alex Rodriquez and his fiancé and pop sensation Jennifer Lopez.
