Local St. John’s basketball guard to get valuable experience as freshman
The St. John’s basketball program will be looking to get its freshman guard experience.
Head coach Joe Tartamella and the St. John’s basketball program caps off its freshmen class with Danaijah Williams in addition to state of Indiana standout Sara Zabrecky.
Williams is much more of a local prospect hailing from Brooklyn, New York and playing her high school basketball at South Shore Hugh School.
Listed at 5-foot-11, Williams is a bigger guard for this St. John’s team and that could help the team in potential conference games when the Red Storm will have to keep teams such as Connecticut, Villanova, and Marquette off the backboards.
St. John’s struggled in the rebounding phase of the game last season and the coaching staff made an effort to try and correct that with the newcomers the team brought in for the 2020-21 season.

Throughout her four seasons in high school, Williams averaged 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
However, despite her height it could be difficult for Danaijah Williams to see sustainable playing time in her freshman season as St. John’s will rely on Preseason All-Big East Selections in sophomore Leilani Correa and senior Qadashah Hoppie.
Tartamella will also have a rotation of guards that includes Unique Drake, Camree Clegg, and Kadaja Bailey that figure to see major playing time in addition to potently playing his two freshmen guards with Williams and Zabrecky.

St. John’s is coming off of a season which ended in the Big East Tournament with a loss to Maquette in the semifinals but the Red Storm finished with a 19-12 (11-7 Big East) record.
Danaijah Williams will get to see her first, live college basketball game action on November 25 as the Lady Johnnies host St. Francis College of Brooklyn at a time yet to be announced.
