The St. John’s basketball program is looking to snap its five-game losing streak.

It has not been a great start to the 2020-21 season for the St. John’s basketball program as the Lady Johnnies currently ride a five-game losing streak.

Following wins over Fairleigh Dickinson and St. Peter’s to start the season, St. John’s (2-5, 0-3 Big East) have dropped its next give games in its conference opener to Villanova and subsequent non-conference games against Delaware and Massachusetts.

The last two defeats for the Red Storm have come in Big East play with a heart-breaking loss to Marquette and a blowout against Providence.

Joe Tartamella‘s squad has dealt with a rash of injuries this season, most notably to Preseason Big East selections Qadashah Hoppie and Leilani Correra.

Correra missed her first game of the season on Saturday against the Friars while Hoppie has missed games against Fairleigh Dickinson, St. Peter’s, Villanova, and Marquette.

Despite the poor start to the season, Correra is averaging 23.0 points per game, a team best, including outburst of 35 points against Delaware and 31 points against Marquette.

Hoppie is averaging 18.0 points per game in just three games played while no other member of the squad is posting double-figures.

St. John’s basketball needs a victory anyway way possible.

The Red Storm will return home to face St. Bonaventure (1-2, 0-1 Atlantic 10) and it’s a must-win scenario.

With the Christmas break looming, St. John’s needs something to feel good about before the brutal stretch of Big East play begins, still with two games against the No. 3 Connecticut Huskies still on the schedule.
