St. John’s basketball defense must continue to be stout

Defense has been the biggest change for St. John’s in its midseason turnaround and a lot of that has to do with forward Josh Roberts.

Roberts is the anchor for the Johnnies in the paint, seemingly knowing where to be at the right time and how to position his teammates on the perimeter.

Posh Alexander is a menace at the top of the full court press for St. John’s and will likely give Collin Gillespie problems, but Villanova is much different than any other team the Red Storm has played this season.

The Wildcats can play slow or fast.

They can score from inside and outside.

They can draw fouls and live at the free throw line.

Jay Wright coaches his team to do it all and they can defeat any opponent by a variety of methods.

St. John’s must be aggressive yet disciplined on the defensive side of the ball and try to remain out of foul trouble against a potent Villanova offense.
