St. John’s basketball: Complete women’s schedule announced

The St. John’s basketball program announced its complete women’s schedule. 

Both St. John’s basketball programs have now released its full schedules with the latest announcement from the Big East Conference regarding the women’s basketball schedules.

Head coach Joe Tartamella will enter his tenth season at the helm of the Johnnies and he has made changes on his coaching staff after the Red Storm have missed the postseason for two conservative seasons, not including the COVID-19 shortened 2019-20 campaign.

Bill Ferrara was brought in as the team’s associate head coach while former St. John’s star Shenneika Smith remains on the staff as an assistant coach, and Candice Walker was added as an assistant coach as well as the program’s recruiting coordinator.

As previously announced, St. John’s will begin its on November 10 at home against Fairleigh Dickinson before hitting the road for two straight games against Stony Brook and Temple.

The Johnnies will return home for a matchup against Yale before heading to Florida to participate in the Gulf Coast Showcase and a matchup with Penn State in its opening game.

St. John’s will either play Iowa State of Charlotte in its second game before playing either South Dakota State, UMass, UCLA, or Kent State in its final game.

Then, the Red Storm return back to Queens for a three-game home stand and an early season conference matchup against the Seton Hall Pirates on December 5.

St. John’s closes its home stand against Iona and La Salle before rounding out non-conference play with a road matchup against Wagner.

St. John’s basketball done no favors with daunting Big East schedule

Big East Conference play begins on December 19 for the Red Storm with a home game against the dangerous DePaul Blue Demons as the Johnnies will then go on its Christmas break.

St. John’s returns to the court on December 31 for a two-game road swing against Georgetown and Villanova before returning to Carnesecca Arena to face Butler and Xavier.

Tartamella’s team will then have arguably its toughest stretch of the season with three of its next four games on the road, beginning with trips to Providence, Creighton, and Seton Hall.

The only home game for St. John’s during that sequence of games is against the UConn Huskies on Sunday, January 23.

St. John’s brutal stretch ends on January 28 with another date against DePaul.

The Johnnies will host Marquette and Villanova on January 30 and February 4, respectively before hitting the road once again for matchups with Xavier and Butler.

A three-game home stand awaits St. John’s upon their midwest return with games against Georgetown, Creighton, and Providence before the Red Storm make the trip up to Storrs to face the Huskies on February 25.

St. John’s ends the regular season with a trip to Milwaukee to face the Marquette Golden Eagles as the Big East Tournament will take place at Mohegan Sun Arena from March 5 through March 7.

The Red Storm are coming off of a 8-15 (4-12 Big East) season which ended in the Big East Tournament against UConn.
