The St. John’s basketball team is finally back in action after a long offseason.

Could this finally be the year for the St. John’s basketball team in which the Johnnies win a NCAA Tournament game?

The Red Storm return two of the best players in the Big East Conference, Julian Chamapagnie and Posh Alexander, while head coach Mike Anderson brings nine new players to Queens this season, a majority with experience playing in a major conference.

St. John’s will host lowly Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday night in Queens to begin the season.

The Delta Devils have not appeared in the NCAA Tournament since 2012 and the team has won a total of 15 games in the last four seasons.

The Johnnies received votes to be ranked in the Preseason Associated Press Top-25 Poll and were picked to finish fourth in the Big East Conference in the Preseason Coaches Poll.

St. John’s Injury Report vs. Mississippi Valley State

After an offseason in which Posh Alexander and Julian Champagnie had surgeries performed, there is only one player who is on the injury report for the Johnnies on Tuesday night and it is sophomore Dylan Adde-Wusu.

Addae-Wusu had ankle surgery this offseason as well and head coach Mike Anderson said in his media availability on Monday that he is “skeptical” if the sophomore will play in the season opener.

The Bronx, New York native did not play in St. John’s exhibition against Baruch nor in its secret scrimmage against Rhode Island.

St. John’s vs Mississippi Valley State Odds: Spread, Over/Under & Betting Pick

WynnBET’s College Basketball Odds lists St. John’s as a whopping 43.5-point favorite on Tuesday night as the over/under is set at 158.5.

It certainly is a lot of points to lay, but with the Johnnies being at home and playing one of the worst teams in college basketball we’ll take St. John’s to cover the 43.5-point spread and the total will go under.
