The St. John’s basketball team returns from a COVID-19 pause against DePaul.

It has been 18 days since the St. John’s basketball team took the floor and it was a day the Johnnies would like to forget.

The Red Storm (8-3), without Julian Champagnie (COVID-19), lost to Pittsburgh at the buzzer in an ugly showing by both programs.

Since, there has been four games postponed due to health and safety protocols with the Johnnies and it remains to be seen that the team will look like on Wednesday night against the improved DePaul Blue Demons (9-3, 0-2 Big East).

DePaul, under new head coach Tony Stubberfield, got off to a 9-1 start on the season but have dropped two straight Big East games (at. Butler, vs. Providence) since returning from its own COVID-19 pause.

Javon Freeman-Liberty paces the Blue Demons with 20.3 points per contest.

St. John’s Injury Report vs. DePaul

St. John’s will not be at full strength on Wednesday against DePaul but it remains unclear who will be available for head coach Mike Anderson.

Three known Red Storm players tested positive for COVID-19, Julian Champagnie, Joel Soriano, and Tareq Coburn, although there were more positive tests within the program which triggered its game against Butler getting postponed on December 23.

Champagnie is back and will be on the court against the Blue Demons but the availability of the rest of the roster is unknown.

St. John’s vs. DePaul Odds: Spread, Over/Under & Betting Pick

WynnBET’s College Basketball Odds lists St. John’s as 5-point favorite at home against DePaul on Wednesday night while the total is listed at 152.

St. John’s has struggled this season and it is difficult to predict how the Johnnies will play against the Blue Demons with an unconfirmed roster and a long pause.

Given all the unknowns we will take DePaul to cover the five-point spread but St. John’s will win the game outright. We also predict the total to go under the number listed.
