The season is on the line again for the St. John’s basketball team against Villanova.

The St. John’s basketball is the team that just will not die.

The Johnnies (13-9, 5-6 Big East) seemed as good as dead after its crushing home loss to No. 15 Providence last week but the Red Storm responded by winning road games against Georgetown and Butler to set up a massive week for its postseason hopes.

St. John’s will host No. 15 Villanova (17-6, 10-3 Big East) and No. 24 UConn (15-6, 6-4 Big East) at Madison Square Garden, two teams that have already defeated Mike Anderson’s team this season.

Two wins could put the Red Storm right back in the conversation for an NCAA Tournament bid while two losses would just but eliminate the Johnnies from consideration for an at-large bid.

The chance of winning the Big East Tournament is still always there for St. John’s to punch its ticket to the Big Dance for the first time under Anderson.

The Johnnies are running out of time for resume building victories and it must start on Tuesday night.

St. John’s Injury Report vs. Villanova

The injury report is the biggest headline entering Tuesday’s game between St. John’s and Villanova as each team has concerns about its stars.

St. John’s guard Posh Alexander turned an ankle late in Saturday’s victory against Butler. He tried to return to the game but had to leave with about three minutes to play and was seen with ice on his ankle as the team left the floor.

Alexander is listed as a game-time decision.

Villanova also saw its star guard Collin Gillespie turn his ankle in Saturday’s win over UConn and not return to the game.

Head coach Jay Wright said his senior had to go for X-Rays and would not practice leading up to the game.

Guard Justin Moore missed the game against the Huskies due to an ankle injury suffered against Marquette.

Both players are considered game-time decisions.

St. John’s will be without Rafael Pinzon again.

St. John’s vs. Villanova Odds: Spread, Over/Under & Betting Pick

WynnBET’s College Basketball Odds lists St. John’s as a 4.5-point underdog at home against No. 15 Villanova on Tuesday night while the total is listed at 145.5.

It seems wrong to make a prediction on the game without a definitive answer on the injury report so this is all hypothetical.

An educated guess says that neither Posh Alexander nor Collin Gillespie will play on Tuesday night while Justin Moore will make an attempt to play at The Garden.

St. John’s could be seen as the beneficiary if both point guard are out as the Villanova offense relies so heavily on the presence of Gillespie to operate.

We will take St. John’s to cover, and win outright, against Villanova as the total will go over the number listed.
