St. John’s basketball: 5 takeaways from trip to Dominican Republic
O’Mar Stanley has Developed
St. John’s is continuing to hope on the development of their younger players turning into key assets to this year’s team and one of their promising young players seems to have turned a corner.
O’Mar Stanley had bright spots last year, including a 14-point performance against Creighton at the end of last season, and he has progressed into a major piece of the Red Storm this winter.
Stanley came off the bench in the first game of the Dominican Republic tour and added nine points on 4-of-5 shooting in just 14 minutes of action.
Then, Mike Anderson gave his sophomore forward the starting nod in the final two games of the trip as Stanley allows the team to use a small-ball lineup with David Jones at the small forward position.
The 6-foot-8 matchup problem had eight points in 26 minutes against the GUG All-Stars before struggling from the field against the Senior National Team with six points on 1-of-7 shooting in the loss.
Joel Soriano will dominate the minutes at the center position but O’Mar Stanley gives St. John’s the versatility to mix lineups together that could be difficult to defend for opponents.
