Playing in the Big East hasn’t been easy on St. Johns or UConn this season.

At one point this season, the Red Storm were 11-1 and the Huskies were 14-0. Since then, St. Johns has gone 6-11 and UConn has gone 7-7.

St. Johns vs UConn Prediction

There’s no doubt that conference play hasn’t been easy on either of these teams, but let’s dig deeper than their recent records.

UConn is ranked No. 5 in the nation by KenPom and No. 18 in the AP Poll for good reason.

The Huskies have been impressive in most games this season and own a 14-2 record at home behind strong play from Adam Sanogo (16.8 points, 7.2 rebounds per game) and Jordan Hawkins (16.5 points, 4.1 rebounds per game).

Despite all this, though, St. Johns had little trouble closing out the Huskies on their home court in an 85-74 win back on Jan. 15 – even with 45 combined points from Sanogo and Hawkins.

Even though St. Johns won the last meeting, I have to take UConn with the spread here. The Huskies are the better team in the polls, and records and WAY better in terms of both offensive and defensive efficiency.

I also think it’s very difficult for any team to beat a quality opponent like the Huskies in back-to-back tries, and UConn is surely taking St. Johns seriously after their last meeting.

If you’re looking for another play in this game, lean toward Sanogo finishing with a double-double. He scored 14 points with 10 rebounds the last time these two teams met and his season average is fewer than three rebounds away from being a double-double.
