St. John’s basketball wing David Jones entered the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon.
One of the final moves of the deconstruction of the St. John’s basketball roster has been made as David Jones entered the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon.
Jones spent just one season with the Red Storm after becoming the first intra-conference transfer last offseason when coming to Queens after two seasons with the DePaul Blue Demons.
The 6-foot-6 junior started in 17 of 31 games while averaging 13.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 39.2-percent from the floor and just 29.4-percent from 3-point range.
David Jones entered St. John’s with high expectations in hoping to fill the shoes of departed star Julian Champagnie but failed to live up to the hype as the Johnnies turned in another disappointing season.

New head coach Rick Pitino said during his introductory press conference that most of the roster would not return and Jones should be the final player that will be entering the transfer portal on the St. John’s roster.
Under the new NCAA transfer rules, David Jones will be immediately eligible at his next school because he will be a graduate transfer despite this being the second transfer of his career.
St. John’s basketball roster barren as calendar turns to April
The program has already announced that Joel Soriano and Drissa Traore will return until Pitino while freshman center Mohamed Keita told the Eye on the Storm podcast that he will also be coming back to Queens for his sophomore season.
David Jones joins Rafael Pinzon, O’Mar Stanley, Kolby King, AJ Storr, Posh Alexander, Dylan Addae-Wusu, and Andre Curbelo in the transfer portal from the St. John’s roster as Pinzon has already announced his commitment to Bryant.
St. John’s remains involved with a plethora of talent from the transfer portal but have yet to land any prospects under its new regime.
