The St. John’s basketball team landed inside the Top-10 finalists for VJ Edgecombe.

Another local prospect has included the St. John’s basketball program in his list of finalists and the most recent cutdown of a list comes from Long Island Lutheran (NY) standout VJ Edgecombe.

Edgecombe now joins Archbishop Stepinac’s (NY) Boogie Ellis and the Patrick School’s (NJ) Jaiden Glover to keep the Red Storm lurking as their college decision looms.

The 6-foot-5 wing is listed as a 5-star prospect and the No. 16 player in the Class of 2024, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

VJ Edgecombe also ranks as the No. 5 small forward in his class and No. 3 player in the state of New York, trailing Cardinal Hayes’ Ian Jackson, a North Carolina verbal commit, and Fland.

Florida, Baylor, Alabama, Duke, Miami (FL), Florida State, UConn, Michigan, and the G-League Ignite are the other finalists for the services of Edgecombe.

VJ Edgecombe was the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference’s (NIBC) Player of the Year and New York’s Gatorade Player of the Year this year at LuHi.

VJ Edgecombe is another prospect that was a target for the Red Storm going back to the Mike Anderson tenure in Queens and Rick Pitino has continued the school’s pursuit of one of the top local prospects.

St. John’s only has one commitment in the Class of 2024 from Lefteris Liotopoulos, a Greek international prospect.

The Johnnies only have two freshmen on its current roster, 4-star guard Simeon Wilcher and 3-star forward Brady Dunlap, as Pitino has created his roster around the transfer portal for his first season in Queens.

There have been no reports about any visits, unofficial or official, for VJ Edgecombe as his decision could linger well into the high school basketball season.
