Big East basketball power rankings after uneasy first week for many teams

It was not a great start to the season for the Big East after last year's disappointment

1. UConn Huskies (2-0)

Dan Hurley could have fielded a team of all walk-ons and the Huskies would still deserve to get the top spot in the power rankings after winning two straight National Championships. But, he didn't and he has another team that could win it all.

Alex Karaban will likely be an All-American selection this season and Liam McNeeley will be one of the best rookies in the country and a top selection in June's NBA Draft.

Add in the continued development of Solo Ball, Jayden Ross, and Samson Johnson with the continuity of Hassan Diarra and transfers Tarris Reed and Adan Mahaney and this team is loaded from top to bottom.

Expect UConn to hold this top spot in the Big East basketball power rankings for most of the season.
