Big East basketball power rankings have two distinct divisions after more upsets

Things are becoming much more clear after two weeks of basketball in the Big East

9. Villanova Wildcats (2-3)

The only team in the Big East with a losing record sits at No. 9 because you can see the talent on its roster but Kyle Neptune has dug nearly an impossible hole to get out of.

Villanova has lost back-to-back games against Saint Joseph's and Virginia with losses coming in three of its last four matchups. It's hard to believe since Eric Dixon has been playing like a Player of the Year candidate.

It felt like its matchup against the Hawks was a 'must win' but Villanova cannot lose to UPenn on Tuesday night, and it really feels like this team needs a 2-0 week with a meeting against Maryland on Sunday in New Jersey.

10. Georgetown Hoyas (2-1)

Georgetown failed its first test of the season and did so pretty badly.

This is a Hoya team that is supposed to be improved from last season but showed no signs of it during a 21-point loss at home to Notre Dame. Its defense was just as bad as a season ago and took an unprecedented 32 3-pointers, only making eight.

Nothing will be learned from Georgetown over the next two weeks with five consecutive 'buy games' on its schedule. Trips to West Virginia and Syracuse are at the end of its non-conference schedule, but similar to Notre Dame, the Mountaineers and Orange are not predicted to be major contenders this season.

Can Ed Cooley's team figure something out? Time will tell.

11. Seton Hall Pirates (2-2)

Watching a Seton Hall game this year has been a chore.

After a nail-biting season opening victory against Saint Peter's, the Hall dropped back-to-back games against Fordham and Hofstra before its 28-point defensive clinic against Wagner.

While its defense has looked good, Seton Hall has failed to score more than 58 points in any of its games. Given the style of basketball played throughout the country today, that's inconceivable

However, that could be the bright spot for Seton Hall. It's offense has struggled so much it can only improve and, with its elite defense, the Pirates could pick up some key victories this season.
