Big East basketball power rankings remain chaotic after disastrous start to season

The outlook of the Big East Conference is not strong following the first month of the season

7. DePaul Blue Demons (7-0)

The other undefeated team remaining in the conference next to Marquette is the DePaul Blue Demons and it's a credit to Chris Holtmann.

Holtmann is continuing to inject life into the formerly run down program but the Blue Demons remain at No. 7 in the rankings because they haven't played anyone. DePaul did not play in a Thanksgiving event nor schedule a game against a power conference school.

If the Blue Demons go to Lubbock, Texas on Wednesday night and beat Texas Tech they will certainly skyrocket in these rankings and begin to be taken seriously by the rest of the country.

8. Providence Friars (5-3)

Another northeast Big East team was swept on a tropical island this weekend and it was the Providence Friars.

There really is a lot to digest with the Friars right now and it starts with star Bryce Hopkins.

Reports circled social media prior to Providence leaving for the Battle 4 Atlantis that Hopkins would make his season debut in the first game of the event, but that tone changed as the tournament got closer and then was revealed he didn't travel with the team.

Then, things did not get much better on the court. After a close loss to a surprising Oklahoma team, the Friars were run off the court by an inferior Davidson squad that started the game on a 27-8 run before losing by 16 points to a talented yet overrated Indiana squad.

Kim English has a lot of work to do with this team and perhaps a home game against BYU is just what the doctor ordered before road games with Rhode Island and DePaul.

9. Georgetown Hoyas (7-1)

The stretch of games that everyone has been waiting to see for Georgetown is here.

After failing in its first test of the season against Notre Dame, the Hoyas have handled business against its 'buy game' opponents.

Now, it travels to a West Virginia team on Friday night that shocked a lot of people over the weekend in Atlantis. The Mountaineers are well coached, have size, and can shoot the lights out of a gym behind Tucker DeVries.

It's not going to be easy for Ed Cooley's team that will have to play Syracuse, Creighton, and Seton Hall after its journey to Morgantown.
