Ed Cooley is not someone who minces words and he held nothing back after the St. John’s basketball team rallied to win over Georgetown on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden, 63-58.

It was the eighth straight victory for the Johnnies over its conference rival and the Red Storm have now won four straight games and 10-of-11. Cooley is dumbfounded that St. John’s isn’t getting more recognition nationally.

“For St. John’s not to be ranked…I don’t know who some of these voters are, I don’t know who has a vote, but you’re blind.”

The Red Storm (15-3, 6-1 Big East) missed the Associated Press Top-25 Poll this week by one spot, landing at No. 26, and have not been ranked since going 1-2 during its three game trip to the Bahamas.

“Wake up. You’re blind. That’s one of the best teams we have played all year. I don’t know if there’s a close second.”

Its loss to the Johnnies capped off a brutal three game stretch for the Hoyas in which it played on the road against Marquette, hosted UConn, and traveled to New York for its bout with the Red Storm.

“This team is really, really good. They have dynamite players, they defend at an elite level, they try to speed you up. Very, very good.” Cooley continued.

St. John’s was without starting guard Deivon Smith, who suffered a bruised shoulder in its win over Villanova on Saturday night and scored the fewest amount of points in a victory this season.

“For everybody that’s behind that iron mic that has a vote, wake your [backside] up.”

The Red Storm defense held Georgetown (12-5, 3-3 Big East) to a season-low 58 points, previously set in its prior game against UConn, a 68-60 loss.

It will not be long before the two teams meet again, switching venues to Washington D.C. on Tuesday, January 28 (6:30 p.m. ET, FS1). In the meantime, the Johnnies will look to land another rivalry victory on Saturday night (8:00 p.m. ET, FS1) against Seton Hall (6-10, 1-4 Big East) in New Jersey.
