1. Rick Pitino named St. John's Basketball Head Coach

March 20, 2023 is a date that will hopefully live in Red Storm history as it's date when the program truly makes the climb back to the glory days.

This undoubtedly has to be the moment of the year for Johnnies fans.

Bringing in one of the greatest college basketball coaches to ever live with two National Championships at the top of his long Hall-of-Fame resume has rejuvenated the energy of the program, which has been getting quite dark with the lack of NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 20 years.

The last NCAA Tournament win for the Red Storm was in 2000.

After three seasons at Iona, two of which culminated in NCAA Tournament trips, Rick Pitino decided to make the move to Queens and was named as the school's 22nd all-time coach signing a massive six-year contract to right the ship on the program.

The coaching change led to a massive overhaul of the squad with 14 newcomers and only two players from last year's squad returning.
