The St. John's basketball program had a ton of great moments on the court during 2023 and more are sure to come in 2024 but it's time to take a stroll down memory lane on what happened in Queens over the past 365 days.
It was a banner year for head coach Joe Tartamella and the squad with the first half of the calendar year capping off it season with the Red Storm reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in seven years and several program records broken in the year.
The start to the 2023-24 season has not gone exectly according to plan but there is still a lot of basketball head for the Johnnies.
Let's take a look back at some of the best moments:
5. St. John's defeats Villanova at Madison Square Garden
St. John's has not started off this campaign at the same blistering 13-0 pace they did in 2022-23, but they own a 7-7 record entering the new year and landed a huge victory over Villanova just a few weeks ago on December 16 at Madison Square Garden.
In the team's first contest inside The Garden in four years and in their Big East opener, the Red Storm ended its nine-game losing streak against the Wildcats.
Unique Drake led the way with 16 points while Jillian Archer notched a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds in the win.
Down three going into the 4th quarter, the Johnnies outscored the Wildcats 17-9 to grab the win against a conference foe they have had serious trouble with over the last few years.
Villanova was held to just 1-for-11 from three point range in the final period.
