St. John's basketball transfer portal target, Bensley Joseph, visiting Big East rival
The St. John's basketball team has been fairly quiet in the transfer portal to this point in the offseason.
Rick Pitino has seen three players, Glenn Taylor Jr., Drissa Traore, and Cruz Davis, enter the portal but has yet to land a commitment from a player outside the program. There are currently five scholarships for the Hall of Famer to fill.
However, it hasn't been for a lack of interest. Things have been just been quiet from players the Johnnies are targeting.
One player that did land on campus in Queens for a visit was Miami guard Bensely Joseph, but he has scheduled another visit for a Big East rival.
Joseph is visiting Providence today, according to multiple reports.
It's the second known visit for the New England native after he spent time with the Johnnies on March 24.
Joseph has played in 105 games with the Hurricanes during his three seasons, starting 29. Only two of those starts came prior to this season, in which he averaged 9.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
If Bensely Joseph were to land with the Johnnies, he would be expected to fill the role vacated by Nahiem Alleyne this offseason.
Joseph shot 40.8-percent from the field and 36.4-percent from 3-point range.
St. John's has not been shy about its interest in Rutgers transfer center Cliff Omoruyi, who has been at the top of the program's wish-list since the beginning of the offseason. Things have become complicated with the Red Storm's pursuit of the defensive minded center with schools like Kansas and Kentucky joining the race.
Things should be heating up much more for St. John's and its pursuit of transfer portal targets following this weekend's Final Four and the recruiting dead period that the NCAA has put in place, which is lifted on April 11 at 12:00 p.m. ET.
