Former St. John’s standout RJ Luis is still keeping his entire focus on the NBA Draft as some prospects are withdrawing their names and returning to college basketball.
One of the biggest names to pull out of the draft is Arkansas freshman, and New York City native, Boogie Fland.
Fland was projected as a second-round pick but is opting for at least another season in college and despite his local roots he is not an option for the Red Storm.
However, Luis, who participated in the first day of 5-on-5 scrimmages at the NBA Combine on Wednesday, went for 12 points, seven rebounds, and three assists on 5-of-15 shooting but missed all four of his 3-point attempts and committed four turnovers.
“I’m not even thinking about that right now, to be honest,” Luis told ESPN’s Jeff Borzello at the combine when asked about the potential he withdraws from the draft and returns to college.
Luis has remained steadfast throughout the NBA Draft process that he plans to remain in the draft rather and has not given any thought to where he would play next season in college after entering the transfer portal shortly after the St. John’s season ended.
The Big East Player of the Year had not been projected to be selected in many mock drafts leading up to the NBA Combine but was predicted as the No. 55 overall pick by Yahoo! Sports’ mock draft following the draft lottery.
Luis is not in the most recent mock drafts from ESPN or The Athletic.
St. John’s last NBA Draft pick was Sir’Dominic Pointer in 2015 as a second-round pick. Its last first round pick was Moe Harkless in 2012.
RJ Luis has until May 28 to withdraw from the NBA Draft if he wishes to play college basketball next season.
