While it didn’t happen in the state of New York, the St. John’s basketball program landed another victory in court on Tuesday when the state of California granted an injunction that allows all players listed in the lawsuit fighting for another year of eligibility to play during the 2026-27 season.

It includes Red Storm forward Reed Bailey, who committed to the program in August.

The court’s decision is pending an appeal from the NCAA.

Bailey, through two exhibition games, is averaging 6.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game for the Johnnies and has slotted in as the team’s backup center behind Ruben Prey.

He serves as the third Red Storm player to receive an injunction or a temporary restraining order that allows them to participate on the court. The other two, Babacar Sane and Keyshawn Hall, are waiting for the final decision from their respective New York judges.

Sane will have a final hearing on November 9 while Hall’s case could reach a decision at any moment.

Like Bailey, Hall is also searching for a fifth year of eligibility that the NCAA is trying to deny members of the Class of 2022 in its new 5-in-5 eligibility rules. Many other athletes have been granted the ability to play a fifth year of college basketball through the legal process.

Babacar Sane’s case is more detailed as the international prospect spent time in the NBA G-League on an Exhibit 10 contract as he fights for amateurism in his attempt to play college basketball.

St. John’s was able to get British point guard Quinn Ellis cleared by the NCAA without having to go to court and has every player on its roster available to them at the moment.

The Red Storm will finish its preseason with an exhibition game against Texas on Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden before the regular season begins on November 2.
