After spending one season with the St. John’s basketball team, freshman Kelvin Odih isn’t going too far from Queens as the former 4-star recruit committed to Fordham on Tuesday morning.
Odih played sparingly with the Johnnies last year, seeing action in only ten games and averaging 1.5 points per contest. He was thought to be a part of the team’s future before entering the portal this offseason as Rick Pitino reloaded the Red Storm’s roster since its season ended.
The native of Providence, Rhode Island was a spring addition to the St. John’s roster a year ago after he decommitted from West Virginia following head coach Darian DeVries taking the job at Indiana.
Kelvin Odih was the last player on the St. John’s Sweet 16 roster to commit to a new school since entering the transfer portal after March Madness hero Dylan Darling landed at Grand Canyon, captain Sadiku Ibine Ayo at Iona, Joson Sanon at West Virginia, and Imran Suljanovic at New Mexico.
Casper Pohto and Fotis Konstantinidis are the only freshman from last year’s roster to return to St. John’s.
Fordham ended its season strong, winning five of its last seven regular season games, but saw its season come to a close with a loss to George Washington in the A-10 Tournament.
The Rams have never won the A-10 and its last appearance in the NCAA Tournament came in 1992. The addition of Kelvin Odih, who will be looking to prove himself in the Bronx as the highly sought after player he was coming out of high school, could give Fordham a dynamic dimension next season.
St. John’s will enter the season as a likely Top 15 team in the nation and have the expectation of winning its third straight Big East title and making a deeper run in the tournament.
