The Big East has announced the St. John’s basketball conference schedule for the upcoming season as the Johnnies will look to win its third consecutive regular season and tournament championships under Rick Pitino.
The Red Storm begin action at home inside Madison Square Garden against DePaul on December 19. Tipoff will likely be around 8:00 p.m. as the building hosts the CBS Sports Classic earlier in the afternoon. It’s the third straight season that St. John’s will begin league play against the Blue Demons.
St. John’s will then go on a three-game road trip around the holidays, playing Seton Hall in Newark on December 23 before a trip to Providence on December 30 and finishing the swing against Butler on January 3.
Rick Pitino’s squad then returns home to play Georgetown for the first time this season on Wednesday, January 6 at The Garden while its series with the Friars will wrap quickly, playing Bryan Hodgson’s squad in Manhattan on January 13.
The Johnnies will then head out on another road swing, playing Creighton on January 16 in Omaha while getting DePaul again on January 19.
The season series will conclude with Seton Hall on Saturday, January 23 in New York.
Rick Pitino will meet his son, Richard, and the Xavier Musketeers for the first time this season in Cincinnati, the site of his 900th career victory, on Tuesday, January 26 before the first of two meetings with UConn.
The Huskies will first come to Madison Square Garden on Friday, January 29 – the same day of the week as St. John’s victory over Dan Hurley’s squad last season.
Another two-game road trip will begin the month of February with its first matchups of the year against Marquette on February 2 and Villanova on February 6. It will lead into the longest home stand of conference play for the Red Storm, hosting Creigton on February 10, Xavier on February 13, and Marquette on February 17.
St. John’s will return to Capital One Arena, the site of its season ending loss to Duke in the Sweet 16, on Saturday, February 20 to play Georgetown before wrapping up its home slate against Villanova on February 23 and Butler on February 27.
The final game of the regular season for the Johnnies will be in Connecticut against the Huskies on Tuesday, March 2 with an idle spot on the last weekend of the regular season.
