After two weeks of roster movement, St. John’s has added another major player to its roster in Auburn forward Keyshawn Hall.
Hall made the announcement on Tuesday after being granted another year of eligibility through a temporary restraining order (TRO) as he, and many other college athletes, try and fight to get the NCAA’s 5-in-5 rule immediately enacted. However, under the latest court rulings he is currently ineligbile for the 2026-27 season and would need help from the legal system to get on the court for the Johnnies.
The 6-foot-7 forward teased a decision last week between St. John’s and Kentucky, posting both schools on his social media pages before ultimately landing with the Johnnies.
The Red Storm will be his fifth school in as many seasons, but he signed with the Tigers last season, averaging 19.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. It was the fifth best scoring and eight best rebounding marks in the SEC, which earned him Third Team All-SEC honors.
His previous stops included UNLV, George Mason, and UCF.
St. John’s has been searching for a replacement for Syracuse transfer Donnie Freeman, who suffered an Achillies rupture in late June and has been ruled out for the season. The Red Storm also saw Spanish freshman Gildas Gimenez removed from the roster after he was deemed academically ineligible and Montenegrin wing Djordije Jovanovic not be able to obtain a visa to travel to the United States.
It allowed the opportunity for Rick Pitino to heavily pursue Keyshawn Hall, who becomes one of the best talents to hit the portal this offseason.
Last season, Hall shot 45.1-percent from the field and 37.9-percent (64-for-169) from 3-point range, a career-high since his 10-for-20 mark as a freshman. In a game against St. John’s in November, he went for 20 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
Assuming his eligibility status is approved, he will join a talented roster that is comprised of British point guard Quinn Ellis, Senegalese forward Babacar Sane, Baylor transfer Tounde Yessoufou, and returners Ian Jackson and Ruben Prey.
Keyshawn Hall not only boosts St. John’s chances of winning a third straight Big East regular season and tournament championship but also taking the next step to compete for a National Championship.
