Name: God’sgift Achiuwa
2012 Season Stats: No stats (redshirted). 2011-12 statistics are, however:
Prognostication: God’sgift Achiuwa is in a tough spot. A former starter, before a redshirt year last season, Achiuwa is rejoining a deep and talented roster. To be honest, it is hard to figure out where exactly he fits in as far as the rotation goes. It is extremely unlikely that he is a starter anymore. Really, it’s even a little far-fetched to see him getting a ton of minutes. More likely than not, though, Achiuwa is going to be used for frontcourt depth.
Strengths: Strong. Achiuwa can control the block on defense and offense. That, in turn, helps him be an admirable rebounder and a relatively efficient basket-maker.
Gods’figt Achiuwa is also pretty athletic for a man his size — which helps him in transition as well as contesting shots on the defensive side of the ball.
Weaknesses: Achiuwa is still a very raw basketball player. Offensive game is limited and doesn’t really excel in any particular aspect of the game. He is a player on the Red Storm roster that is in serious danger of getting booted to the end of the rotation because of all the talent now on it.
Personal Note: A former, personal favorite of mine. Achiuwa seems destined to be forgotten about this season. I mean, maybe it’s just me but I can’t figure where Steve Lavin fits him in the rotation this season. While most of the new talent is in the backcourt, if Lavin wants to go small (which he likely will) it will most likely be at the expense of Achiuwa’s minutes.
Random, but neat God’sgift Achiuwa Factoid: His name is God’gift Achiuwa. Do we really need a neat factoid about him?
