Ken Pomeroy is a statistical wizard the likes the human species rarely comes across. It is why so many members of that particular species pays attention when that man comes up with his projections for the college basketball season. Well, Uncle KenPom has done it again. This time, though, he not only ranks several Big East Conference teams rather highly, but thinks the St. John’s Red Storm are going to be a rather special group of Johnnies.
According to Pomeroy — and his ability to crunch the numbers and project unlike any other– the Johnnies are the third best team in the Big East and the 39th best team in the entire country.

Here is how Pomeroy has the entire league ranked with the league ranking first and the overall ranking following the team names.
- Villanova | 9
- Georgetown | 22
- St. John’s | 39
- Creighton | 47
- Providence | 53
- Xavier | 66
- Butler | 67
- Seton Hall | 85
- Marquette | 86
- DePaul | 197
What stands out? Well, the idea that Georgetown is as high as being projected the 22nd team in the nation, Creighton still bubbling around being super relevant in the post Doug McDermott era and — in my opinion at least — that his projections do not like DePaul.
Oh, who am I kidding? DePaul stinks.
