Very Early St. John’s Red Storm Players and Coach Report Card
By Joe Nardone
The Bench
My god the bench depth is horrid at the moment. Hopefully after some eligibility issues get cleared up it fixes it, but for now the seven man rotation puts the Red Storm at the mercy of the foul-trouble-gods.
The Positives
Jamal Branch is still a solid player. He is playing efficiently, averaging over 20 mpg, and is often the calming force for St. John’s on offense. He is a very competent to above average sixth-man type of player.
Christian Jones is a big boy who comes off the bench.
The Negatives
Only two guys seeing legit time off the bench. Counting Jones as part of the rotation at just over 8 minutes per game is even pushing it too. The lack of depth is just insane at the moment.
Overall Grade: F
This isn’t a knock on those two players — although Jones is not great — or the few other guys who see run from time to time, but there is no depth on this team. If/when St. John’s gets into foul trouble it all but spells doom for them.
