The Team (Overall)

No negative or positive breakdown here. We know the deal. St. John’s sometimes plays the game with their heads up their collective rears. Other times they are the most spectacular team to watch in all of college basketball. They are a veteran team who sometimes shows the moxie that a veteran team only can, while other times you would swear the lineup was consisted of my two daughters, Scooby Doo, the Loch Ness Monster and Homer Simpson.

Hopefully they will all figure it out in way which they are all on the same page more consistently. Oddly enough, the player I get frustrated the most with in the regular rotation, Sir’Dominic Pointer, might be the key to successes down the road. I am not kidding you when I tell you how awesome he played in the high post against Gonzaga. In fact, the small lineup that the Johnnies were forced to play when Obekpa fouled out with over six minutes of action left played really fluidly together. It is a group that should see more time together on the floor for long stretches — which is a weird thing to say considering that Obekpa is really, really good.

Regardless, this has been a really good start for St. John’s. They won four games, played with and came back against the 10th ranked team in the entire country, and the scariest part of it all is that their best basketball is still a far way off.

Overall Grade: A-

Despite the loss. Despite a lot of negatives. Despite everything. St. John’s is a good team. You can just see it. As already eluded to, it is funny to think about the fact that they are actually only going to get better. With a slew of games they should win coming up — as well as a tough test against Syracuse — St. John’s still has plenty of time to get the ball rolling in an even more positive direction.

Momentum is a funny thing. St. John’s is about to grab it. The Big East as well as the rest of the nation better get ready for a storm headed their direction…

A Red Storm.

Corny? Yes, but I give zero poops.
