An old foe has entered the race for a St. John’s basketball recruit who is highly sought after near his hometown of Chicago.

The Pittsburgh Panthers and the St. John’s Red Storm have had some classic battles when the two schools were in the Big East but now the programs will be vying over the same recruit once again.

Pittsburgh is the most recent school to offer Class of 2021 guard Brandon Weston of Morgan Park High School in Chicago, Illinois.

More from Storm The Paint

Weston is a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 77 overall recruit in his class and the No. 4 player in the state of Illinois.

The 6-foot-5 small forward picked up an offer from Mike Anderson and his staff back on July 26 and then took an unofficial visit to Queens on August 27.

Current Big East rival Seton Hall has also offered Brandon Weston while schools such as Arizona State, Illinois, Nebraska, Massachusetts, St. Louis, University of Alabama Birmingham, and Wake Forest have also been hot on his recruiting trail.

Pittsburgh head coach Jeff Capel recently offered another St. John’s recruit Jordan Riley of Brentwood, New York who has been highly sought after by the Red Storm’s coaching staff.

Mike Anderson has made it a priority to be a fixture on the national recruiting scene and the 27 open scholarship offers to the Class of 2021 has certainly proved that.

According to Rivals, Illinois is the favorite to land Weston as the Johnnies focus their attention more on local prospects in the early years of Anderson’s time at St. John’s.
