The St. John’s basketball program made the Top-6 schools for Class of 2021 standout Ike Cornish after the Johnnies were not included in the Top-8 for the prospect.

Better late than never and Mike Anderson and his coaching staff should be glad they entered the recruiting battle for Class of 2021 guard Ike Cornish when they did.

Cornish, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard, announced his top schools on Twitter that include Rutgers, Virginia Tech, St. John’s, Xavier, Maryland, and Georgetown.

The South Carolina native is a Legacy Charter High School standout and is ranked as the No. 78 player in the Class of 2021 and the No. 16 shooting guard in the class, according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.

After moving from the Baltimore area to Greenville, South Carolina, Cornish saw many more schools enter his recruitment as his Top-8 schools stood at Xavier, Georgetown, Maryland, Virginia Tech, DePaul, Clemson, George Washington, and VCU.

St. John’s did not extend an offer to Cornish until April 10 and the four-star prospect immediately added the Red Storm to his list of schools.

Cornish has clearly had his eye on certain schools, so much so that he included Virginia Tech and Maryland in his Top-8, which was released on March 23, but did not get an official offer from those two schools until April 20 and 22, respectively.

The 247 Sports Crystal Ball Prediction has Ike Cornish heading back to his once home of Maryland and joining the Terrapins although it should be noted that St. John’s has made a recent surge in the recruitment of the lethal shooter.

Mike Anderson has yet to nail down a Class of 2021 recruit, and while that shouldn’t last much longer, the college basketball world enters a strange time period with rising high school seniors as a majority of the best recruiting showcases in the county are being canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ike Cornish will be announcing his college decision on August 21, which is his birthday.
