St. John’s basketball: Popular Class of 2022 forward updates recruitment

A St. John’s basketball prospect recently updated his recruitment and new programs that have become involved.

Just over a month ago, St. John’s extended an offer to Class of 2022 small forward Ramel Lloyd Jr. but in that short period of time many other programs have been in contact with Lloyd Jr. as his recruitment heats up.

However, in a recent interview with Jake Weingarten of Stock Risers, the 6-foot-6, 190 pound small forward explained that Louisville, Florida State, Illinois, and Oregon have been the latest schools to reach out to him as the Cardinals have gone as far as completive a virtual visit with the Woodland Hills, California native.

In addition to St. John’s, Lloyd Jr. also holds offers from Kansas, Arkansas, Georgetown, TCU, San Diego State, Arizona State, USC, Massachusetts, Dayton, DePaul, UNLV, Fresno State, and Manhattan.

Ramel Lloyd Jr. previously starred at Taft Charter High School in Los Angeles but has since announced his transfer to Dream Christian Academy, located in Phoenix, Arizona.

The four-star recruit is ranked as the No. 57 prospect in the Class of 2022, in addition to being the No. 16 small forward and No. 9 player in the state of California.

When the system updates and makes the change that Lloyd Jr. will be playing in the state of Arizona, he would be the No. 3 player in the region.

Ramel Lloyd also told Weingarten that the option of forgoing college and heading to the NBA G-League, a decision made popular by Class of 2020 stars Jalen Green and Daishen Nix, is also a possibility for the rising junior.

Ramel Lloyd Sr. was a Bronx, New York native and played one season at Syracuse in 1996-97 before transferring to Long Beach State and remaining there from 1998-2001.

According to Verbal Commits, St. John’s currently has extended16 scholarships in the Class of 2022, but has not landed a commitment from any potential prospect.

The Johnnies are still waiting to land its first commitment from a Class of 2021 recruit after bringing in a four-man class in 2020 split between high school and JUCO players.
