The St. John’s basketball program has offered Class of 2021 JUCO recruit Dashawn Davis and Class of 2022 recruit Silas Sunday

The St. John’s basketball program continued to hit the recruiting trail as they handed out offers to two local prospects in Silas Sunday and Dashawn Davis.

Mike Anderson and his staff have shown plenty of interest in Sunday, the 6-foot-10 center, over the past few weeks.

The Bronx, New York native is finishing up his sophomore year at Our Savior Lutheran High School, a program that the St. John’s knows very well as incoming freshmen Posh Alexander and Dylan Wusu also were stars at the local powerhouse.

Silas Sunday currently holds offers from the Kansas State Wildcats, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the Bryant Bulldogs, however, plenty of other programs are showing interest in him such as Pittsburgh and Oregon State, among others.

The Red Storm also officially offered another Bronx native in Dashawn Davis, who was previously committed to St. John’s Big East rival, the Seton Hall Pirates.

Davis decommitted and was released from his National Letter of Intent from Seton Hall after rumors surfaces regarding his academic eligibility.

Nonetheless, Davis put together an impressive freshmen season for Trinity Valley Community College (Tex.), as the 6-foot-3 guard averaged 21.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game on 50.8-percent shooting from the floor and 36-percent from three-point range in JUCO play last season.

Davis is a member of the Class of 2021 and would have two years of eligibility remaining once he arrived in Queens.

One thing the two recruits have in common is that they both attend Our Savior Lutheran High School (OSL), although Sunday is still a student-athlete at the school.

OSL seems as it could turn into a pipeline to Queens and that could be a major boost to the recruiting efforts of Mike Anderson and his staff.

Recruiting in New York and trying to keep the best New York City prospects home was one of the biggest concerns when Anderson was first hired and it looks like he is making progress on fulfilling that goal.

St. John’s doesn’t currently have a commitment in the Class of 2021 or 2022, but Mike Anderson’s staff has been very active on the recruiting trail throughout this offseason despite the shutdown because of the coronavirus pandemic.
